Let's be safe out there...

I'm stealing the phrase from the old sergeant on Hill Street Blues, but it applies to us welders as well. We are in a potentially dangerous situation every day. I'm not talking about the longterm dangers that welding rod fumes might bring. I'm talking about every day, every time we strike an arc. On any particular day, you can read about someone setting a fire when welding. You can read about people getting burned.

I saw this article about a Florida construction worker falling needlessly to his death and was reminded again about how we can do little things that make us safer. He was welding on a new warehouse and he feel about 30 feet to his death when a forklift struck a beam he was standing on. He'd disconnected his safety harness. He did it to get just a little closer to his weld. It's not worth it, folks, it just isn't. Safety first seems elementary but when you're busy and hurried, you might be inclined to take shortcuts. Please, don't.

I'll trot out a link to the welder's safety resources page we have at Welder's Corner, in case anyone needs it. If you have suggestions, contact us. We'll add anything safety related to the site, anytime.

Again -- let's be safe out there.
